Who we are

Solstice Psychology is a sole-practitioner psychology practice in Melbourne led by Dr Carolina Barbosa, a registered Clinical Psychologist who works with adults across a range of life experiences and mental health concerns. Carolina brings a calm, grounded and compassionate presence to therapy, with a focus on creating a safe and collaborative space for meaningful change.

Solstice Psychology operates out of clinic rooms in Northcote, and offers both face-to-face and Telehealth appointments, providing flexible options to suit your lifestyle and preferences.

Why ‘Solstice’?

The name Solstice Psychology was chosen to reflect the themes of transition, balance, and renewal.

Just as a solstice marks a turning point in the natural cycle—whether the longest night or the return of light—it can symbolise moments of reflection and change in our own lives.

At Solstice Psychology, these symbolic shifts mirror the therapeutic journey: a space where difficult periods can begin to shift into times of insight, clarity, and growth.

Whether you're navigating mental health challenges, grief, trauma, identity shifts, or life transitions, therapy offers a structured and supportive space to process experiences, deepen insight and enhance psychological wellbeing.

Is Solstice Psychology the right fit for me?

Starting therapy is a big step — and finding the right therapist can make all the difference.

Carolina has a warm and collaborative approach to therapy, which involves making sense of what’s going on beneath the surface — not just managing symptoms, but understanding their roots.

Solstice Psychology may be a good match if you:

  • are aged 18+

  • are seeking support for mental health concerns in the perinatal period (pre-conception through pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenting), or

  • are seeking support during other life stages for concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, adjustment to major life transitions, trauma, or grief and loss.

  • are open to exploring your inner world and seeking a deeper understanding of your emotional patterns and behaviours.

  • want therapy to be a reflective space, not just a solution-focused one.

Solstice Psychology may NOT be the right fit if you are looking for very brief, highly structured therapy, or if you're primarily seeking assessments, reports, or medico-legal input.

If you are unsure, please feel free to reach out to organise a brief conversation to help you decide whether this space feels right for you.

*PLEASE NOTE: Solstice Psychology does not offer crisis intervention.
